Otsuka Pharmaceutical is a global healthcare company with the corporate philosophy ‘Otsuka-people creating new products for better health worldwide.’ Otsuka research, develop, manufacture and market innovative and original products, with a focus on pharmaceutical products for the treatment of diseases and nutraceutical products for the maintenance of everyday health.
Within Otsuka’s UK division, the team spent up to four days a month manually downloading and consolidating data, from which they would then create Excel reports. Due to the manual nature of the process, it was susceptible to human error and inaccuracies, on top of which, there was no centralised reporting available across their many internal departments – making their data incredibly difficult to understand.
As well as having continual transparency across their key metrics, the team also required a way in which they could share and present company-wide KPI’s during their Monthly Town Hall.
Bespoke developed and deployed a Power BI dashboard for Otsuka, which consisted of two key views – one for Finance, the other for Operations. The dashboard extracts Otsuka’s data and presents back their performance vs targets for each of the key metrics they identified.
The dashboard automatically connects to data from multiple different systems which are used within Otsuka, meaning that all of their reporting for this process is now automated. Users can quickly and easily understand key statistics as well as the story behind the data, through its intuitive nature – this provides a real impact for the entire team and drives much better outcomes.

Through the adoption of Power BI for their reporting, Otsuka UK have saved 4 days per month of manual work in pulling the reporting together. They now benefit from increased data accuracy and are able to rely on the information in front of them without question. The entire business now has increased transparency of performance and are able to view and consume the numbers whenever, wherever – meaning they can quickly identify areas they are hitting targets and those which need more focus.
Drilldown features allow Otsuka to see the detail behind the top-level metrics – so, if a metric looks odd for any reason, it’s simple and easy to investigate why it looks odd. It essentially steers them to the right place makes them look in places they might not previously have considered and access business insights instantly. In addition, the Managing Director now has a live holistic view of business performance, so he can make much more informed decisions, faster. Something they weren’t able to do previously.
